Cybersecurity culture: Harnessing 40+ years of Safety Culture expertise

cybersecurity

Cybersecurity is a critical challenge for organisations today. The key to building robust, sustainable defences often lies not in technology; rather, they depend on a resilient cybersecurity culture.

Our latest research shows that the evolution of cybersecurity culture closely parallels the development of safety culture in safety-critical industries since the late 1980s. The extensive experience in implementing, refining and improving safety culture since then offers valuable insights and lessons learned that can guide and support organisations in strengthening their cybersecurity culture.

Claire Blackett from Risk Pilot presents this paper title: “Learning from Safety Culture to Optimise Cybersecurity Culture” at the ESREL conference in Stavanger, Norway (https://esrel2025.com/). The paper explores the important parallels and their implications for cybersecurity culture development.
